HISTORY

The founding organizations, collectively The Consortium, Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Community Development Corporation (now the William Franklin Buchanan Community Development Corporation), J.U.M.P (Jefferson Street United Merchants Partnership), Be a Helping Hand Foundation, New Level Community Development Corporation and now Mt. Calvary Herman Street Community Development Corporation have a combined experience of over 35 years in the community.

With the William Franklin Buchanan Community Development Corporation as the lead fiscal agent, The Consortium’s inaugural effort leveraged three million dollars of federal stimulus capital with other funding to invest in excess of four million dollars into struggling North Nashville Neighborhoods to help stem decline associated with the Great Recession. That effort produced much needed affordable housing in the Nashville community.

The Consortium is committed to working collectively through its mission and strategic goals that complement its member organization’s individual efforts. The Consortium is actively identifying strategic partners to join in powering this economic engine for a healthy, safe and thriving community for everyone.

GOALS

  • Increase housing options which allow vulnerable residents of this historically African American community to remain in place.

  • Facilitate economic opportunities and investments, which contribute to a vibrant and diverse business ecosystem.

  • Partner with entities in the promotion of North Nashville pride, as a safe community in which to live, play and work.

  • Support entities that preserve North Nashville's history including its African American cultural and educational institutions.
